CROWNPOINT, NM - On March 9, 2022, Navajo Nation Oil & Gas Company awarded Navajo Technical University $50,000 for NTU students’ scholarships. A meeting was held in the university president's conference room where Dr. Elmer Guy, NTU President, met with Mr. McClure, CEO of NN Oil & Gas, to discuss creating possible opportunities for the NTU students. This award from the NN Oil & Gas was made possible by NTU‘s Financial Aid Manager, Gary Segay, who reached out to Navajo Petroleum for a possible donation to NTU.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to apply themselves, we are continuing to create pathways and partnerships for our students to succeed,” said Dr. Elmer Guy, NTU President as he discussed with Mr. McClure, CEO of NN Oil & Gas. “This could possibly create internship opportunities for our students.”
“The donation is greatly appreciated and we are going to apply it to institution standard and possibly in tuition,” said Gary Segay. “We will open up the scholarship to all students, not just one field; we plan to release it to our students in spring, summer, and fall.”
The NN Oil & Gas reached out to NTU Gary Segay and wanted a brief background of his 20 years of experience in the financial world and working at multiple institutions. Gary Segay was asked to provide an intensive criterion for the award and was submitted to the NN Oil & Gas. From there, it was proposed to its board and then the award was approved.
This award will provide our students further motivation to pursue their higher education goals and the NN Oil & Gas to provide educational material on “Helium Resource” for future endeavors.
