CROWNPOINT, NM - On June 12 - 16, 2022, Navajo Technical University’s very own Dr. Abhishek RoyChowdhury was nominated by Jim Gusek at the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Reclamation Sciences (ASRS) in Duluth, MN.
Dr. Abhishek RoyChowdhury is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Natural Resources at Navajo Technical University. He has earned his B.S. in Zoology and M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Calcutta, India, also a Ph.D. in Environmental Management from Montclair State University.
The conference (ASRS) focuses on research, technical, and regulatory issues associated with the land and water. For Dr. Abhishek RoyChowdhury, his current ongoing research project is helping Native American communities to access clean water, which helps create more opportunities in the San Juan River system which was impacted by mine spill back in 2015.

- Albuquerque Business First’s (ABF) 2022 40 Under 40 Award which is based on career achievements and philanthropic and community outreach for the State of New Mexico.
- American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES)’s 2022 40 Under 40 Rising Star Award.
His research and projects include creating economic opportunities such as reclamation of mine sites. He has received numerous funds and grants adding up to $2M from different sources including the USDA and NASA.

My primary goal at NTU is to create more opportunities for our students, so that they not only can get more hands-on applied knowledge on their field of study but they can also achieve their academic and professional endeavors.
